FEMA SETS UP MOBILE RECOVERY CENTER FOR CENTRA L TEXAS FLOOD VICTIMS

U.S. Congressman John R. Carter (R-Round Rock) announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is operating a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MRDC) that will be circulating affected areas in Williamson, Hood and Bell counties during the next two weeks.

“These disaster recovery centers are an effective way for individuals who have experienced loss during the torrential floods to learn more about disaster aid and how the process of applying for these funds works,” Congressman Carter said. “I encourage anyone affected by the recent floods in Central Texas to stop by one of these centers to gain information and meet one-on-one with individuals to discuss the status of their FEMA aid, how to avoid or reduce disaster losses in the future, and fill out loan applications.”

FEMA’s MRDC will be in Williamson County June 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Leander Fire Hall located at 701 Leander Drive in Leander, Texas. Following these dates, the MRDC will relocate to Hood County between June 20 and June 22, and Bell County from June 24-June 26.

Note: Carter has taken an active role in securing disaster assistance for Central Texas. On June 28, he sent a letter from the entire Texas delegation to President Bush, Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff and FEMA Administrator David Paulison asking for expedited approval of Gov. Rick Perry’s federal disaster declaration request for the flooded regions. When Gov. Perry sought to change the disaster declaration date his request was denied by the President. Last week Gov. Perry appealed the President’s decision and once again Carter organized the Texas Congressional Delegation on a letter to the administration supporting the Governor’s attempt.
