CONG. CARTER WINS CONFERENCE SECRETARY POSITION

Washington, DC, Nov 17, 2006 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) today was unanimously elected by his Republican peers to serve as the House Republican Conference Secretary. As Conference Secretary, Congressman Carter is a member of the House Republican Leadership team for the 110th Congress.

“I am honored to be voted Conference Secretary, and want to thank my colleagues for showing confidence in me to do the job. I look forward to getting started with the other members of the House Republican Leadership to achieve our party’s goals in Congress.

“I will be devoted to ‘Member Services,’ which will better position Republican members of the House to win in 2008. This mission will entail being accessible, acting as an advocate, and taking action on behalf of the concerns of all Republican members.

“Over the next two years, we will work hard to get back to, and promote, our core Republican values—values that the American people agree with and live by.”

Congressman Carter was first elected to Congress in 2001. Before being elected, Carter served as an elected district court Judge in Williamson County for nearly 21 years. Carter sits on the House Appropriations Committee, where he serves on the following subcommittees: Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Foreign Operations.

Congressman Carter has consistently earned the respect and support of his colleagues during his time in Congress:

*Freshman Term – elected to House Leadership as member of Steering Committee

*Second Term – Assigned to the Appropriations Committee and re-elected to the Steering Committee

*Third Term – Elected Conference Secretary
