CARTER WINS IMPORTANT FUNDS FOR FALLS COUNTY

Washington, Jul 20, 2007 -

U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31), a member of the Appropriations Committee, announced that $300,000 for the Big Creek (Tri-County) Watershed of the Brazos River project has been included in the 2008 Agriculture Appropriations bill. This funding will provide flood control and a new water reservoir for the city of Marlin.

“This is the first step to secure funds to complete the necessary surveys to make the Big Creek Watershed ready for construction,” Congressman Carter said. “Once built, the watershed will provide much needed flood control to provide water for the city of Marlin. I am pleased that I was able to secure funds for this critical project that will help provide water to the people of Marlin.”

Passage of the bill in full committee is the first step to ensure that these important funds are provided for the watershed in Marlin. The full House is expected to take up the 2008 Agriculture Appropriations bill next week, where, if passed, the bill will continue to the Senate for further consideration. If passed in the Senate the bill will proceed to a Conference Committee where both Houses of Congress will create a compromise bill to be presented to the President for signing.
