Carter Wins American Conservative Union Award for 5th Straight Term

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congressman John Carter has been rated as a Standout Conservative among members of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 5th consecutive session of Congress by the American Conservative Union , the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization.

ACU Chairman Al Cardenas says the award “is a reflection of Representative John Carter’s consistent support of conservative principles on a wide range of issues of concern to grassroots conservatives in 2011. At a time when the fundamental principles of the American system of government are being challenged, Representative John Carter stands with those who are trying to preserve those principles.”

“I am honored to receive this award, as it gives folks in Texas the information they need on my total voting record, now and over the years I have represented them in Congress,” says Carter.  “I’m especially proud to have maintained these high scores while serving as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which votes on all federal spending, which is one of the biggest concerns of my constituents.”

Carter scored an 84% conservative vote rating for 2011, following a perfect 100% score in 2010.  The former Texas judge has a 93.78% lifetime rating with ACU.

Founded in 1964, ACU represents the views of Americans who are concerned with economic growth through lower taxes and reduced government spending and the issues of liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values and national security.

The ACU Ratings of Congress have been the definitive guide for decades on where Members of Congress stand on conservative issues. Published by the ACUF, it provides the public and the news media a yearly score for each Member of the United States House and Senate.
