CARTER SUPPORTS CONGRESS-PASSED DEFICIT REDUCTION BILL

Washington, Feb 2, 2006 -

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31) joined colleagues in passing S. 1932, the Deficit Reduction Act on Tuesday. This bill is the most significant action to restrain federal spending in the House since 1997. The Act provides $39 billion in savings over five years.

“The Deficit Reduction Act is important to reducing wasteful spending and encouraging a more efficient government, while continuing to support the needs of Americans,” Congressman Carter said. “I am proud to have supported a bill that takes important steps to reduce the federal deficit and keeps government safety net programs sustainable.”

 
The bill is now on its way to the President’s desk for his signature.
