CARTER STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF ECONOMIC GROWTH PLAN
01/29/08Washington, Jan 29, 2008 -
House Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) today praised passage of a bipartisan economic stimulus package designed to stimulate the lagging economy by immediately putting money back into the pockets of the American people and by giving employers incentives to create new jobs and invest in the economy. Carter made the following statement:
“When people envision the American Dream, it includes owning property, having a good paying job and feeling economically stable. This stimulus package gives our economy the quick jolt it needs by putting money directly back into the hands of the American people and giving small businesses critical tax cuts that create incentives for new jobs.
“I came to Washington to get things done, stop wasteful spending, and make sure this government works for the people. Although there is still work to be done on this issue, this overwhelmingly bipartisan bill is a good first step towards and even broader tax relief package.
“Texans know that if we continue to let the ambitious spirit of the American people combined with additional tax relief work for us, we can solve the issues facing our country and keep our economy strong and growing.”
The temporary economic growth plan that passed this afternoon includes rebates of $300 to $1,200 for 117 million American families, as well as $150 billon in tax relief for small businesses.
