CARTER AND COPPERAS COVE ISD FIGHT TO ENSURE FEDERAL FUNDING

House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) and the Copperas Cove Independent School District (CCISD) proudly announced today the successful effort to ensure that $4.5 million in critical Impact Aid funding for local schools stays intact.

“I was proud to be a part of making a difference for our excellent teachers and deserving students in Copperas Cove,” Rep. Carter said.  “This funding will allow teachers to continue providing educational support to the children of our servicemen and women.  At a time when moms and dads are deployed all over the world in pursuit of freedom, we should not be slashing critical funding for their children at home.  Every child deserves a quality education and this federal funding in a step toward achieving that noble goal.”  

“The original proposal for the reauthorization of Impact Aid would have reduced our Impact Aid dollars by 40 percent,” said Dr. Rose Cameron, Superintendent of the Copperas Cove Independent School District.  “This would have had a detrimental effect on the educational program we provide.  The soldiers of Fort Hood and their families are very important to us in the Central Texas area.  Without the intervention of Congressman Carter working for our community, a devastating proposal could have been introduced.  Because of his efforts, the bill that was introduced last week benefits Copperas Cove and the military families that we serve.  We are fortunate to have a representative that truly cares about children, soldiers, and our community.”

Under the proposed re-authorization of Impact Aid by National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS), CCISD was targeted to have their allotment of federal impact aid slashed by almost 40 percent, or $4.5 million.
