Rep. Tauscher Resigns as Chair of New Democrat Coalition: Rep. Crowley nominated New Dem Chair by Tauscher

Washington, D.C - Today, Representative Ellen Tauscher (Calif.) released the following statement:

 

"It has been an honor to chair the New Democrat Coalition and to work with such a dedicated and talented group of colleagues. The New Democrat Coalition has been a family made up of an effective group of members working within an institution where consensus is sometimes hard to come by," Rep. Ellen Tauscher, chair of the New Democrat Coalition, said. "I know, even as I leave, that you will continue to build upon the progress we have made together."

"As I leave, I wholeheartedly nominate my good friend and colleague, Congressman Joseph Crowley from New York, to serve as the new Chair of the New Democrat Coalition. Since joining our Caucus and Congress in 1999, he has shown that he has what it takes to be a leader. Joe has a keen understanding of the issues matched only with his ability to collaborate and get things done. Over the years Joe has shown his loyalty to his constituents, determination to enact sound policies that will help American families and businesses, and a commitment to ensuring success for his fellow colleagues in the House. I truly believe the New Dems will continue to achieve great things under the leadership of Congressman Crowley."

Representative Crowley's election as Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, now awaits an official vote by the membership of the full Coalition.
