Reducing Federal Spending
It’s no secret – our nation has a spending problem. Washington must be more responsible with taxpayer dollars, funding only true national priorities and ending the practice of trading special favors and pet projects. For too long, Congress has spent the hard-earned tax dollars of our citizens without thinking of the consequences. This out-of-control federal spending is bankrupting our country and will eventually lead to economic disaster.
I have put my strongest foot forward on this front, consistently voicing my support and voting for measures that put America back on the path to fiscal sanity. The first budget I voted for in Congress would significantly reduce federal spending, and begin the process of making critical adjustments in our nation’s broken entitlement programs.
I was an original cosponsor of the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, which would do just as it says – cut spending, cap our spending moving forward based on how much we bring in, and add a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I am also a cosponsor of two stand-alone bills which would add a Balanced Budget Amendment, and voted against raising our nation’s debt limit.
We must streamline our federal government, making it more efficient to protect your tax dollars from unnecessary federal spending. To accomplish just that, I cosponsored legislation to establish the Committee on Elimination of Nonessential Federal Programs.
We must restore some common sense to our spending habits, which will in turn allow for private sector job creation. Only then will our economy grow and prosper.
