WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ander Crenshaw, Chairman of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, today (4/14) voted to stand side-by-side with Americans who demand that Washington cut spending, put them back to work, and place our nation on a path to permanent prosperity.

With his support, the House of Representatives passed historic legislation to cut $38.5 billion in spending while funding federal government operations for the remainder of fiscal year 2011. The bill passed by a vote of 260-167 and is expected to be taken up by the Senate later today and signed into law by the President thereafter.

Crenshaw issued the following statement:

“Americans in Florida and across the nation are the real winners with this agreement. In their fight against unemployment, they set budgets, make courageous choices to make ends meet, and have long called on Washington to do the same.

“The Republican House led the charge for spending reductions and passed an historic $38.5 billion in spending cuts. Congress led by example and cut Member office budgets by 5% and cut the Appropriations Committee by 9%. Other agencies across the federal government will join and make choices on how to best work with tighter budgets.

“While there is certainly more work to be done to erase job-crushing debt, make no mistake about it: Washington moved from spending our future to saving our future. Now, the path is clear to take up the 2012 budget and the stage is set for trillions more in cuts as well as entitlement reform.

“Moving ahead, I will fight on for responsible budget cuts and fiscal reform that will grow our economy and create jobs and urge my colleagues to do the same. My constituents and citizens across the nation deserve no less.”
