WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ander Crenshaw, chairman of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, today (2/19) lauded House passage of the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1), calling it a bold and necessary response to tough economic times.

The measure, which funds federal government operations from March 4 to September 30, now moves to the United States Senate for consideration. Crenshaw issued the following statement following the early morning vote:

“Congress has said ‘yes’ to an historic $100 billion in spending cuts – a bold and necessary response to rocky economic times. Capitol Hill looked in the mirror and made the same difficult choices with its money that Americans make with theirs every day, and I commend Chairman Rogers for his leadership through the past weeks.

“We have led in Congress by cutting Member, Committee, and Leadership budgets. At the same time, we recognized that the Capitol Police need resources to protect Members, staff, and millions of visitor to Capitol Hill each year.

“With exploding debt and record unemployment, this Congress does not deserve a special exception. The choices have been difficult, but we can do a whole lot more with a whole lot less. I know it, and the American people know it.

“We now turn out focus to the Fiscal Year 2012 budget. Moving forward, I remain resolute in my commitment to hold the line on government spending as I look for effective and efficient ways to help jump start America’s economic engine and create jobs.”
