WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ander Crenshaw issued the following statement on the agreement reached in Congress to avert a government shutdown and fund the government for the remainder of this fiscal year:

“In this historic agreement, Washington moved from spending our future to saving it. Congress kept the government open for business, funded operations for the rest of the fiscal year, while cutting spending by a record $38.5 billion and paying our troops. The path is now clear to take up the 2012 budget and the stage is set for trillions more in cuts and entitlement reform.

“The real winners here are Americans in Florida and across the nation. In their fight against unemployment, they set budgets, make tough choices to make ends meet, and demand that Washington do the same. Republicans heard that cry and delivered on a commitment to cut wasteful big-government spending and create a stronger environment for job creation now and in the future.

“They can all be assured we will stay strong in the fight to get Washington’s fiscal house in order and put the country on a true path to prosperity.”
