Congressman Dan Lungren Named To Crime and Immigration Subcommittees

(Washington, DC)— Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) has been named to the Immigration, Border Security, and Claims Subcommittee and the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.

In addition, Congressman Lungren has been credited with five terms of service on the House Judiciary Committee.  Congressman Lungren previously served on the House Judiciary Committee from 1979 to 1989 and served as California’s Attorney General from 1991-1999.

“I am grateful to the House Steering Committee for crediting me for my 10 years of previous service on the Judiciary Committee.  I believe that immigration and naturalization reform, the future of the Patriot Act, and the protection of our nation’s Constitution are vital to the defense of our nation in a post-9-11 world.

“Serving on the Judiciary Committee and its critical subcommittees will permit me the opportunity to focus on issues important to the people of my district as well as all Americans.  I continue to believe that protecting our nation from the threat of terrorism is the preeminent responsibility of our government and it will be my top priority in the Congress.

“The Crime and Immigration subcommittees will be in the middle of some of the most important issues Congress will consider such as immigration enforcement and reform, reauthorization of the Patriot Act, our anti-terrorism efforts, and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.”

The Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security has oversight of the nation’s federal criminal laws, drug enforcement, firearms, sentencing/parole/pardons, and death penalty procedures.  The subcommittee has specific jurisdiction over the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, United States Marshall Service, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
The Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims subcommittee has legislative oversight over immigration and naturalization, Foreign Service immunity, private immigration bills, federal charters of incorporation, and claims against the United States.

Congressman Lungren also has been selected to serve on the Homeland Security Committee Chaired by Rep. Christopher Cox (R-CA) as well as the Budget Committee led by Chairman Jim Nussle (R-IA).
