Congressman Dan Lungren Named Chairman of Homeland Security Subcommittee

(Washington, DC)—Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) has been named Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Cybersecurity, a key subcommittee with jurisdiction over strategies to protect against terrorist attack, prioritizing investment in critical infrastructure protections, as well as border, port, and transportation security, and security of computer, telecommunications, information technology and electronic infrastructure.

In addition to chairing the subcommittee, Congressman Lungren will also serve on the Subcommittee on Prevention of Nuclear and Biological Attack and the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing, and Terrorism Risk Assessment.

“I am grateful to Homeland Security Chairman Cox (R-CA) for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with him and the committee members in an effort to protect our nation from those who wish to attack us,” said Congressman Lungren.

“Serving as a Homeland Security Subcommittee Chairman will afford me the opportunity to ensure that the foundation of our transportation and communications networks remain viable in the event of a terrorist attack.

“The events of 9-11 changed my life, much as they changed the lives of Americans across the nation.  After a six-year break in public service and witnessing the tragedy of 9-11 from the streets of Washington, I decided to return to public service to ensure that the United States Congress and the federal government were doing everything in their power to protect the people of the 3rd district of California and the nation from terrorism.”

“I expect Congressman Lungren to be an outstanding member of our committee,” said Chairman Christopher Cox. “The important work of the Homeland Security Committee will be bolstered by Dan’s command of the critical issues we face.”

Congressman Lungren also serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Budget Committee.
