CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE CALLS FOR MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (D OH-11) today stood up for working Americans and voted for the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010. The Act indefinitely extends all tax cuts on incomes of less than $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for married couples. The measure must now go to the Senate for a vote. Following the vote, Congresswoman Fudge released the following statement.

"Last year President Obama and Congress implemented tax breaks for the majority of Americans to help them keep more money in their pockets. That simple change had a huge impact in these leans times," said Congresswoman Fudge. "Continuing that tax relief to 98 percent of Americans was the only right thing to do. It means an average savings of $1,000 for a typical middle class family, which goes a long way toward helping Ohioans stretch tight budgets. Moreover, many economists believe that money is later spent and then invested in our economy.

The measure also extends tax cuts to 97 percent of small businesses, the cornerstone of economic growth.  As for Congressional Republicans who seek a bonus round of tax cuts for the wealthy, Congresswoman Fudge stated, " Where are the jobs? After 10 years of the Bush tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, outsourcing and the national debt grew, while over 4 million American manufacturing jobs dried up.  My constituents have suffered mightily.  Many families continue to struggle to put food on the table.  The last thing I want to do is saddle the average household with an extra $2,000 in debt, the estimated cost of continuing tax cuts to the richest 3% of Americans. "
