Langevin Statement on Airport Expansion

Mar 1, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) released the following statement in response to the agreement reached by the Warwick City Council and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation to go forward with the $165 million runway extension project at T.F. Green Airport:

“I commend the efforts by members of the City Council and the Airport Corporation to work together on addressing residents’ concerns and ensuring the state can move toward receiving the vital economic benefits of this expansion. The combination of this development with the new intermodal transportation center will be of great value to the traveling public and a strong engine for improving Rhode Island’s economy in the long term.

“The citizens of Warwick and city officials raised important issues relating to the impact of this project on their quality of life, and I am hopeful that it will go forward in a more responsible way as a result of their advocacy. I look forward to working with the Congressional delegation to ensure we will have the necessary federal resources to make this happen.”
