New Democrat Coalition: Republican Budget Lacks Core American Values

Washington, D.C. – Today, leaders of the New Democrat Coalition, chaired by Rep. Joseph Crowley (NY-7), released the following statement on the Republican budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2013:

“The congressional budget is a statement of our nation’s values and lays out our key priorities for the coming year. We believe Congress’ focus should be on jobs and economic growth. And, the federal budget plan should reflect the power of American ingenuity and innovation, focus on avenues to foster and harness this creativity to grow our economy, create new American jobs, and ensure a safer and more secure future for our country. 

“Unfortunately, the Republican budget fails to focus on these key areas and does nothing to keep America on the path to sustained success and prosperity. This proposal shifts costs onto the middle class and breaks the commitment to America’s seniors.  If we want to eliminate government waste and get costs under control, we also need to address comprehensive tax reform.   By simplifying our tax code to create a more well-organized system, we can allow individuals and businesses to prosper while restoring fiscal order and ensuring economic prosperity for our children.” 

In November 2011, the New Democrat Coalition endorsed a comprehensive tax reform plan aimed at growing our economy and making American businesses and workers more competitive in the global marketplace.
