Washington, DC– U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement in support of H.R. 2560, the Cut, Cap and Balance Act:

            “The Cut, Cap, and Balance Act would finally end the fiscal uncertainty and force the federal government to put the taxpayers’ interests ahead of politics.  It would avert a breach of the debt limit, cut spending immediately to pre-stimulus levels, impose concrete limits on future borrowing, and give every state in the Union a chance to vote on a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.  The extraordinary debt is draining our economy of jobs, capital, and confidence, and we need extraordinary measures to set it back on track. 

            “I am disappointed that the President has threatened to veto the House proposal.  I would hope that he reconsiders, and treats this moment as a unique opportunity to break Washington’s spending addiction.  Failing that, negotiations will continue, but it will be up to the President to show he can deliver a better plan that makes the tough choices needed to restore confidence in our fiscal future.”
