Reaction of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert to the Administration's Vets Policy Change

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) issued the following statement after President Obama announced that he would drop his proposal to limit veterans’ health benefits by billing former soldiers’ private insurers for service-related injuries or disabilities:

“Clearly, the President saw that this was a non-starter and the wrong thing to do.  The men and women who have been wounded in battle while protecting our freedoms have earned their health benefits.  They deserve our full support and appreciation.  To risk raising their insurance premiums or to discourage employers from hiring them would be a tragic mistake.  Care for their wounds should remain a responsibility of the VA, not a burden on their families.  I’m very pleased the President listened to the concerns veterans expressed over this proposal and reversed course.”
