Biggert Statement on Progress Toward Free Trade

Washington, DC –U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after the White House formally transmitted the long-awaited pending free trade agreements (FTAs) with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea to Congress for ratification:

“These agreements represent one of the most common-sense, low-cost, and economically-sound actions that Congress can take right now to boost job growth here in the United States.  In Illinois, we have exporters of all sizes like Hendrickson, Caterpillar, and Navistar ready to send millions of dollars of US-made goods to new markets opened up by these agreements.  And that means good-paying jobs at a time when we need them most.  It’s unfortunate that the White House waited so long to act, but now that the wheels are in motion, I am hopeful that these agreements will pass without delay, and we can provide a much-needed boost to American job creators.”

Editor’s Note: At approximately, 7 pm ET today,Biggert will join her colleagues on the House floor for a series of speeches highlighting the job-creating potential of the pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea.
