Biggert Statement on Obama Budget Proposal

Washington, DC -- U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-13th-IL) today issued the following statement in response to the President’s Fiscal Year 2012 budget proposal:

“After 21 straight months of record unemployment, there’s no denying that too much borrowing, taxing, and spending has been a drag on our economy.  We need to give American businesses the certainty and stability they need to create jobs, and that means stopping the out-of-control spending in Washington.  Looking at the numbers, the President’s budget clearly does not go far enough in cutting spending.  Under the Administration’s plan, the deficit as a percentage of our economy remains at its highest level since WWII, and one-third of any “deficit reduction” comes in the form of a $1.6 trillion tax increase.  Still, not all the news is bad.  It’s encouraging that we’re not debating if cuts should be made, but rather how deep they should go.  In stark contrast to the President’s plan, House Republicans introduced a resolution last week that would cut $100 billion from the President’s request for the current year, and I stand ready to work with those on both sides of the aisle to craft a budget for next year that meets the same standard of fiscal responsibility.”
