Biggert Statement on August Jobs Report

Willowbrook, IL–U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Labor’s report that national unemployment remains unchanged at 9.1% for August.

“I’m deeply disappointed that today’s report revealed that not a single job was added to the economy for the entire month of August,” said Biggert.  “Washington cannot sit on the sidelines while the economy remains stuck in neutral and tens of millions of Americans go another month without work.   Earlier this week, six hundred people attended a Jobs Fair that I hosted to help connect job seekers with promising career opportunities at great companies in our area.  In speaking with many of the attendees, I heard over and over a directive to do whatever it takes to get both sides of the aisle to work together to create jobs -- and that’s what I intend to do.

“When we return to Washington, my colleagues and I will work aggressively to roll back expensive federal regulations that are burdening small businesses and getting in the way of private-sector growth.  Next week when the President gives his Jobs Speech, I hope he will offer a commitment to join us in this effort and refrain from any plans to authorize massive, taxpayer-funded stimulus spending that already has a failed track record of job creation.  We must join forces to jumpstart the economy by creating an environment where small businesses can get out from under regulatory bureaucracy and focus on putting people back to work.”
