Biggert Opposes Debt Increase

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement regarding her support for H.J. Res. 98, a resolution opposing the President's request to increase the national debt limit by $1.2 trillion, from $15.194 to $16.394 trillion:

"With this increase, this Administration will have presided over a 45 percent increase in the statutory debt limit. As a result, the debt is now greater than the entire United States economy. That's not sustainable, and it has to stop – now. If we are going to avoid the fate of Greece, the President and Congress need to work together to give job creators the long-term certainty they need to grow again. That starts with cutting the debt, and the best way to accomplish that goal is by agreeing to a Balanced Budget Amendment before borrowing any more money from China."
