Biggert: Earmark Ban Curbs Culture of Runaway Spending

Willowbrook, IL – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13) today issued the following statement after the House Republican Conference voted to continue its moratorium on earmark spending, passing a resolution offered by incoming Freshman Member Sean Duffy (WI-7):

“This Republican earmark moratorium is a critical step towards ending the culture of waste and runaway spending that Washington has come to symbolize.  This ban is about restoring public trust in how taxpayer dollars are spent.  As the new Republican majority moves forward, and we work to put the economy back on track, my hope is that this moratorium is just the first step of many we take towards restoring accountability, responsibility, and restraint in government spending.  I also hope that my Democrat colleagues will join us in this effort, and work with us to reform the spending process, cut the deficit, and get this economy moving again.”
