Biggert Celebrates Launch of Benedictine's Women's Leadership Program

Lisle, IL – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today spoke at the launch for Benedictine University’s new Women’s Institute for Global Leadership, which will provide women with academic and professional leadership training opportunities.  Under the direction of Benedictine’s Executive Director of Adult Programs Tanesha Pittman, the Institute is being developed as an extension of the Master of Science in Leadership degree program for women.  In 2010, Biggert secured funding for the Master of Science in Leadership program, which will be made available online to reach a broader audience.

“I want to commend Tanesha for successfully spearheading the Master of Science in Leadership program to help women fine-tune their leadership skills.  In a tough economy and a competitive job market, the Institute for Global Leadership is designed to help more women reach their full potential and gain new opportunities to excel,” said Biggert.

At the event, women who successfully completed the Master of Science in Leadership program shared how they benefited from the courses and mentorship opportunities.  Biggert was the keynote speaker following other supporters including Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and National Van Lines CEO Maureen Beal.

“While it’s getting easier, there are still gender specific obstacles in the workforce,” said Biggert.  “When I was a law student, a professor told me I was taking the place of someone who belonged there – a man.  But I used that comment to motivate me to excel in my endeavors and I encourage all women to do the same.”
