Economy
Far too many Fifth District residents find themselves out of work or are worried about losing their job.  That is why my highest priority remains supporting initiatives that create jobs and promote economic development in our communities.

Education
A quality education is the foundation upon which we create a vibrant society and economy, and I am fully committed to building an educational system that will help us realize our individual and national goals.  

Energy and Environment 
The Fifth District stands ready to compete globally in developing and manufacturing the clean energy technologies that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. 

Financial Reform and Consumer Rights
In fall of 2008, newspapers around the world and in our community were reporting on a financial system on the verge of collapse with headlines that read “Panic Engulfs Markets”, “Stocks Plunge as Crisis Intensifies” and “Is It 1929 Again?” 

Health Care
I know firsthand how providing access to affordable health care isn’t a political issue, but a deeply personal one for every family...I understand the fear and helplessness so many feel when faced with an illness in their family.

Iraq and Afghanistan
As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I have made it one of my top priorities to meet with our troops on the ground who are responsible for implementing and carrying out the President’s policies in Afghanistan and Iraq. 

Labor
It was unions that helped create the middle class and it’s the working families that unions support that help shape the character and culture of our communities. 

Protecting Our Servicemembers
The men and women of our armed forces make up the most effective and professional military in the world and their selfless dedication to defending our nation is something we can never take for granted.

Small Business
Historically, small businesses help bring economies out of recession, are highly motivated to be innovative, and create a significant percentage of new jobs. 

Social Security and Retirement
Social Security and Medicare are two of the most successful domestic programs in our nation's history. For seventy years, Social Security has provided basic economic security that families could rely on in times of need and has meant independence for generations of Americans.

Veterans
As the daughter of an Air Force colonel whose childhood and teenage years were spent moving from one military base to another, I know how challenging, rewarding and stressful life in the military can be, and I appreciate the contributions, support and sacrifices made by each and every member of service families. 

Women's Issues
As a social worker, the head of Lowell’s first all-female law practice, and a community activist, I have always made the issues that impact women a priority.
