Underwhelming Job Growth

Oct 7, 2011 Issues: Budget

Appleton, WI – Representative Reid Ribble (WI-8) today released the following statement regarding the September unemployment report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Today’s job report was underwhelming. Businesses are not hiring the way we need them to because they are facing increasing costs set against a bleak economic backdrop. Uncertainty is making businesses more hesitant to invest and grow their operations, and government must set aside bickering and truly address this problem. The past few years have been marked by high unemployment rates and low business growth.  However, instead of trying to help job creators, government seems to be trying to punish them with higher costs, taxes and unnecessary regulations. It’s time to focus on incentivizing the private sector, specifically small business, so they can focus on investing, expanding and creating jobs.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that 103,000 jobs were added in September. Almost half of those jobs came from the rehiring of 45,000 Verizon employees who had been on strike.
