Ribble Votes to Curb Harmful Regulations

Sep 23, 2011 Issues: Budget

Washington D.C. – Representative Reid Ribble (WI-8) today voted in favor of the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation (TRAIN) Act. Congressman Ribble was a cosponsor the bipartisan legislation which addresses how regulations affect businesses and job creation. The TRAIN Act passed the House by a vote of 249-169.

“Regulations have shuttered businesses across the country and left many workers without jobs. Unnecessary regulations have exacerbated the harsh economic climate that has gripped the nation, making it harder for businesses to compete on a global level and create jobs for the millions of unemployed Americans. This legislation will provide a way to weed out unnecessary regulations that harm economic growth and job creation.

“The Environmental Protection Agency is riddled with unnecessary regulations that have harmed companies, making it more costly and difficult for them to complete projects and expand their businesses. The bureaucratic red tape that stems from the regulation process has stolen jobs from the American people and it’s time to take a proactive stance. Many rules, such as Boiler MACT, Utility MACT, and the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) will have a profound effect on Wisconsin businesses and I want to make sure that the necessary steps are taken to prevent further hardship.”

The TRAIN Act would create an interagency panel consisting of various members of the Administration, such as the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, and Energy, and other cabinet or sub-cabinet officials to study the effects of certain rules and regulations proposed by the EPA that will affect businesses, job creation, and the nation’s economy.
