Ribble on Latest GAO Report: Cutting Spending Will Reduce Waste, Redundancy in Government

Washington, DC – Representative Reid Ribble today commented on the latest Government Accountability Office (GAO) report that highlighted numerous redundancies and waste in federal programs.

The GAO Report, entitled 'Opportunities to Reduce Potential Duplication in Government Programs, Save Tax Dollars, and Enhance Revenue' lists hundreds of duplicative and wasteful programs that our Government currently funds and that, if eliminated or combined, would save taxpayers billions of dollars.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the GAO found 82 federal programs to improve teacher quality; 80 to help disadvantaged people with transportation; 47 for job training and employment; and 56 to help people understand finances.

“We all know the federal government wastes money, but to see all these programs listed in black and white is shocking,” said Rep. Ribble. “This type of redundancy must be eliminated if we’re going to get our massive federal debt and deficit under control.”

“This is just another example of why reining in federal spending is so critical. We must streamline government, get rid of the waste and start saving taxpayers’ money so our economy can get back on track to creating jobs.”
