REP. RIBBLE ON 2ND ANNIVERSARY OF STIMULUS:
MORE DEBT, HIGHER SPENDING, FEW JOBS

Washington, DC – Freshman Representative Reid Ribble today commented on the second anniversary of the $1 trillion “Stimulus” saying it served to create few jobs, and resulted in higher spending and deeper debt. He also called upon Congress to continue voting to rein in out-of-control spending.

“Today, on the second anniversary of the so-called Stimulus, Wisconsinites should be encouraged that the new Republican-led Congress is voting to actually cut spending,” said Congressman Ribble. “Our actions today stand in stark contrast to the Democrats of two years ago who thought that we could borrow and spend our way into prosperity. Clearly we cannot. The Stimulus shoved us deep into debt and did little, if anything, to help create new jobs.”

Congressman Ribble also reminded Wisconsin-8 residents that we were promised that if the “Stimulus” package was signed into law, our national unemployment rate would not exceed 8 percent and 3.5 million jobs would be saved or created.

None of those promises turned out to be true.  After a record 21 months of unemployment at 9 percent or higher, the Stimulus clearly failed to live up to the promises made by the Obama Administration to the American people.  With a final price tag of over $1 trillion, the “Stimulus” package did nothing but add to our out of control national debt which now stands at over $14 trillion.

“I don’t want my grandchildren to end up footing the bill for today’s irresponsible spending decisions. To create jobs and save our children from national bankruptcy, we have to stop spending money we simply don’t have,” said Ribble.
