Ribble Advocates for Preserving and Protecting Medicare

Mar 28, 2012 Issues: Health Care, Jobs and the Economy

Washington, D.C. – Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08), who is a member of the Budget Committee, spoke on the House Floor today in support of the Medicare plan outlined in the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Resolution.

Excerpt from speech:

“There has been fiery rhetoric that the House budget will end Medicare. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Both Republicans and Democrats worked on a plan that will strengthen seniors’ health care accessibility and security.

“If our country remains on its current path, in 10 short years Medicare will go bankrupt. The Congressional Budget Office stated that in 2022 the Medicare trust fund will run out of money and default on its obligations to seniors.

“As representatives of the American people, we here in Congress have the responsibility to address this growing crisis so that millions of seniors now and in the future will not be left without the vital care that they have earned and deserve.

“The Path to Prosperity budget does exactly what the name suggests; it will decrease costs while improving health care quality and coverage for millions of seniors today and millions more tomorrow.”
