President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2011 budget for NASA was soundly rejected by Congress. As a result, Rep. Culberson joined a bi-partisan group of House Members to call on NASA Administrator Bolden to go back to the drawing board. The letter, signed by 15 House Members, urges Administrator Bolden to assemble a team to review how critical elements of the Constellation program can be salvaged within the Fiscal Year 2011 budget request.
The letter stresses the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership in space and calls on a team appointed by Directors from the Johnson, Marshall and Kennedy Space Centers to create an alternative plan to the president’s request that preserves that leadership. Additionally, the letter stresses the importance of continuing to develop a NASA exploration spacecraft and the need to have a clear mission, timeline, and destination.
The United States must maintain its leadership in space exploration, and the president’s budget proposal jeopardizes that leadership as well as our security and prosperity.
