Funeral and Memorial Services in the Senate Chamber

The Senate Chamber, while ordinarily a place of legislative business, has also been host to numerous funeral and memorial services.
Saved in the Senate's collection, is a small, but valuable, set of artifacts related to these services. The ephemera
includes tickets, order of service pamphlets, order of procedure cards, and programs. Also associated with the collection, is a 19th-century memorial sash preserved by Isaac Bassett, a former Senate doorkeeper.
Together, these artifacts provide a glimpse of the honor and respect with which the Senate has accorded its members. In all, there have been 54 funeral and memorial services held in the Senate Chamber from 1812 to 2010.
