  1. As we continue to mourn the senseless loss of life in Connecticut, I'm pleased Senator Feinstein has committed to introducing an Assault Weapons Ban in January. I strongly support re-instating an Assault Weapons Ban and I urge my colleagues to pass it when the new Congress begins next year.

  3. News reports out of Connecticut are just horrifying. There are no words to express my sadness. My thoughts & prayers are with the families of Sandy Hook Elementary.
  4. Don't forget to support the 121212 Concert for Sandy relief tonight at 7:30pm ET. For more information and to stream the concert live, go to http://www.121212concert.org/. Thanks to all those participating in this amazing event and to everyone helping New Yorkers recover and rebuild from this devastating storm.
It was only a few weeks ago when Hurricane Sandy hit the Eastern seaboard of the United States causing thousands to lose power, heat, and their homes, not to mention billions of dollars in damage.
None of us had any idea that on this day,...
12/12, at this minute, 12:12, of this year, 2012, we'd be here, getting ready for a historic evening.
Now, all we can say, is THANK YOU to the producers, iconic artists, fans, donors, viewers from around the globe and most of all to the victims, whose enduring spirit inspires us all to pitch in and help rebuild. http://www.121212concert.org/

  5. To all those celebrating, wishing you a Happy Hanukkah!
  6. Thanks to the White House for sending a request for more than $60b to Congress today for Sandy relief efforts. This is a big first step toward funding New York's recovery from Sandy and will go a long way toward helping the residents in all the affected states rebuild. I strongly urge Congress to take this bill up as soon as possible so we can get the aid to the communities most in need.
  7. The Supreme Court's announcement that it will review the constitutionality of both Prop 8 and the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act" (DOMA) is historic in the fight for marriage equality in this country. In 2012, two federal appeals courts have declared DOMA unconstitutional and now the highest court in the land will weigh in. It's important, however, that Congress act as well by passing The Respect For Marriage Act, which was authored by Rep. Jerry Nadler and which I'm proud to co-sponsor in the Senate. This important bill would not only repeal DOMA, but it would also put in place much-needed protections for legally married same-sex couples. Please sign my petition in support of The Respect For Marriage Act below.
  8. I'm pleased the U.S. Senate came together to pass the National Defense Appropriations Act of 2013. I'm particularly proud that the bill included my amendment to mandate that the military health insurance program cover treatments for the disabled children of our military and veteran families. My amendment requiring any service members convicted of sexual assault to be processed for discharge was in...
cluded in the bill as well. I also worked to include measures that crack down on hazing in the military, fund cybersecurity R&D for the Air Force, preserve NY's National Guard WMD civil support teams, take an important step toward opening combat roles to women, and increase the Defense Department's investment in microelectronics and rare earths.

  9. Yesterday, at an Enivironment & Public Works Committee hearing on Hurricane Sandy, I spoke about the human toll the storm has taken in New York. Thanks to Senator Boxer for holding the hearing, which allowed Senators of all impacted states to tell the stories of the devastating impact Sandy has had all over the region.
  10. As the Senate debates the National Defense Authorization bill over the coming week, it's so important that we preserve the Shaheen amendment, which ensures that the brave women serving our nation around the world have access to reproductive...
services even in the case of rape and incest. Please join me, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Barbara Boxer and EMILY's List in this fight by adding your name below. Our brave servicewomen deserve the same rights and the same access to health care afforded American women here at home.

  11. I'm so pleased that my NDAA amendment requiring TRICARE to cover treatment for disabilities--including autism--for our military families passed the U.S. Senate today. I'm extremely gratified by the broad bipartisan support the amendment received. This will ensure that the children of so many of our military families, who have disabilities, will receive the treatment they need.
  12. I hope you'll check out my new Huffington Post piece on our efforts to reform the filibuster. As a result of unprecedented obstructionism, the filibuster was more in two years than it had been used in the 50s, 60s and 70s combined. This is unacceptable and is why we must reform the filibuster so we can get the Senate working for the American people again.
