  10. I voted Yes on H.R. 6429, the STEM Jobs Act of 2012.

  11. I've joined a bipartisan effort to honor Utica's own Saint Marianne Cope with a Congressional resolution.

It is an honor to recognize St. Marianne Cope who led a truly virtuous life. St. Marianne's commitment and selfless devotion to the care of others is more than admirable. She founded two hospitals – St. Elizabeth's in Utica and St. Joseph's in Syracuse – before going to Hawaii to care for exiled leprosy patients.

She was an ordinary woman who is now a Saint and this resolution is an appropriate way for Congress to honor her many achievements which began with good works in the Mohawk Valley.

  12. Best wishes to the Mohawk Valley's favorite anchorman, Bill Worden, who signed off the air last night for the final time after 35 years at WKTV News Channel 2.

Bill is truly a native son: He grew up in Herkimer, he attended Mohawk Valley ...
Community College and Utica College. He moved to Kansas for his first TV job before returning home to raise a family with his wife Janna.

Wishing Bill all the best in his well-deserved retirement.

  14. I'm honored to be a member of the Honorary Groundbreaking Committee for the Vietnam Education Center at The Wall in Washington.

This center will honor the legacy of our Vietnam veterans and serve as a place of remembrance and education so that the history and the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes may never be forgotten. The center will also serve as an initial tribute to our newest generation of service members who have honorably served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our nation is indebted to our veterans, and we owe it to them as a nation to ensure that they're never forgotten. This center will stand tall on the National Mall to tell their stories for generations to come and be a permanent tribute to their memories and heroism.

  15. Today I chaired a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee oversight hearing on Amtrak's long-term strategic plan.

I asked questions of Amtrak President Joe Boardman, a Rome native and Binghamton University graduate.

Amtrak provides a valuable service to passengers in Upstate New York but has a responsibility to operate as efficiently as possible to minimize the burden on taxpayers. Amtrak has made great strides, but we will continue to work with Amtrak to ensure it provides the most cost-effective and reliable service possible.

  19. As we gather today with family and friends to celebrate and recognize all we are thankful for, we must remember the less fortunate among us and our men and women in the Armed Forces who are overseas.

While we face many great challenges in America today, I have hope that we will work collectively to solve them in our time and that our best days will always lie ahead.

I wish you and yours a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving. May God bless you and the United States of America.
