Washington DC - House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith released the following statement on the attack that killed four American personnel in Libya, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens:

“I strongly condemn those who attacked, and killed, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other U.S. members of the diplomatic mission there.  These brave men and women served America selflessly and worked diligently to assist the Libyan people as they navigate their path forward. There is no justification for such attacks on diplomatic personnel and missions.

“According to press reports, Libyan security forces attempted to stop this attack, but were overrun. We are thankful to the Libyans who stood with our diplomatic staff and attempted to stop this senseless act of violence.

“We will forever remember all those who lost their lives in this attack. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones.”
