Marking First Year in Office, Hochul Continues to Fight for the People of Western New York

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today marked Representative Kathy Hochul’s (NY-26) first year representing New York’s 26th District. Since being sworn in June 1, 2011, Rep. Hochul has established a record of being an independent voice for Western New York and fighting for her constituents.

“It has been a true privilege to serve the people of Western New York over this last year,” said Hochul. “I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish in the first year, but there is still much work to be done. I am committed to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to balance the budget the right way, while standing up for middle class families, small businesses, and our veterans.”

In Hochul’s first year, she has voted for a Balanced Budget amendment; worked to protect the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station; developed the REBUILD plan - designed to expand economic opportunities in Western New York; worked to support small business and family farms; and fought against the Ryan budget, which would end Medicare as we know it while giving tax breaks to millionaires, billionaires, and Big Oil.

Throughout NY-26, Rep. Hochul has held nearly 550 constituent meetings, organized a Small Business Export Forum, secured federal support for local projects such as the Save-A-Lot in the Village of Holley and Niagara Falls International Airport, and assisted her constituents in receiving over $700,000 in federal benefits to which they were entitled.
