- I am stunned and appalled at the atrocities that claimed the lives of innocent children and educators in Newton, Connecticut today. It’s hard to find adequate words to console the loved ones and victims during this time of loss, but my thoughts and prayers go out to them.
- As Speaker Boehner and our President work to negotiate a solution over the fiscal cliff, my Democratic and Republican colleagues alike both want to reach a compromise before the new year. At the forefront of our minds, the livelihood, taxes and welfare of the families in our Districts; families who voted us into office to effect change. Pray for us as we put our heads together to get a deal on the table. I am still optimistic and hopeful that we will find a compromise we can all agree on.

Today, Congressmen Cedric Richmond (LA-02) member of the Homeland Security Committee, and Congressman Steve Scalise (LA-01) commended the passage by the House of Representatives of the Senate amendments to H.R.2838, the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2012 which passed by voice vote today. The Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2012 includes a provision authored by U.S. Representatives Cedric Richmond and Steve Scalise to eliminate burdensome Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) rules.
