New Dems Talk American Competitiveness with Commerce Secretary Bryson

Washington, D.C. – Members of the New Democrat Coalition met with U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson to collaborate on ways to help American businesses and workers compete in the global marketplace.  The discussion focused on expanding opportunities for American businesses at home and abroad, including key global initiatives such as enhancing trade and investment through the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and increased engagement in the Asia-Pacific region.

“It’s no secret that to achieve economic growth, American businesses – small and large – must continue to be able to compete with foreign economies to export our products and create jobs at home.  We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with Secretary Bryson on efforts to help our workers and businesses stay at the forefront of innovation and entrepreneurship and we look forward to working with him to help ensure America maintains its standing as a global economic leader.  Congress must get to work on policies that put more Americans back to work and help American businesses grow, innovate and hire.”

With a strong record of working on issues crucial to our economy and American businesses and workers, the New Dems remain committed to laying the foundation for private sector-led job growth.  The New Dems have endorsed the Administration’s plan to double U.S. exports over five years, were leaders in helping to secure passage of the free trade agreements with South Korea, Panama and Colombia and, most recently, developed a plan for comprehensive tax reform to help American businesses and workers compete and innovate.  Click here to view the New Dem Tax Reform plan.
