Barrow Announces $2.3 million in Recovery Act Funds for Crime Prevention Efforts |
Washington, DC - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced that Georgia's 12th Congressional District will receive close to $2.3 million in Recovery Act 2009 funding for law enforcement assistance through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
"During times like these, the last thing we need is fewer cops on the streets," said Barrow. "But budget cuts could force some of our communities to cut back on the things we need most, like fighting crime. This money will save some jobs and create others, which is critical right now, but it'll also make our kids and families safer, which is the most important thing we can do, now and in the long run."
The Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program is administered by the Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance, and supports a broad range of activities by state and local governments to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system. Those activities include:
· Law enforcement programs. · Prosecution and court programs. · Prevention and education programs. · Corrections and community corrections programs. · Drug treatment and enforcement programs. · Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs. · Crime victim and witness programs.
