Barrow Announces $1,277,939 in Community Health Center Grants For Augusta, Savannah, Swainsboro, and Warrenton PDF Print

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that community health centers in Augusta, Savannah, Swainsboro, and Warrenton will receive $1,277,939 in grants from the Department of Health and Human Services to expand their services. The money was made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"This money's going to allow a lot of families to get health care they otherwise wouldn't get," said Barrow. "Times are tough, and community health centers are where a lot of folks turn when they lose their jobs and can't get health insurance. It'll also put health care workers back to work."

Grantees submitted plans explaining how the funds would be used. Strategies to expand services include adding new providers, expanding hours of operations, or expanding services.

The following community health centers in Georgia's 12th District will receive grants:

Neighborhood Improvement Project, Inc., in Augusta: $134,486

Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Center Inc., in Savannah: $427,687

Union Mission, Inc., in Savannah: $217,508

East Georgia Healthcare Center, Inc., in Swainsboro: $319,183

Tri-County Health System, in Warrenton: $179,075

These grants are the second set of health center grants provided through the Recovery Act. On March 2, President Obama announced grants worth $155 million to establish 126 new health centers.
