Barrow Announces $1 Million Grant for Chatham Area Transit Authority PDF Print

Washington, DC - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that the Chatham Area Transit Authority will receive $1,003,200 in Department of Transportation grants to upgrade fareboxes on the area's buses.  The new fareboxes will use "Smartcard" technology, which is used in metropolitan areas throughout the country, including Atlanta.

"These upgrades are good for the transit authority and good for the passengers," said Barrow.  "The new fareboxes won't break down as much as the old ones, which will save the transit authority money on repairs and lost fares.  Smartcards are convenient for passengers and will allow them to make transfers, which saves money."
