The Improved YouTube is Here

Update 12/10: The team that designed and built the recent YouTube update will answer your questions in a Hangout on Air Thursday 12/13 at 4pm PT on the YouTube channel. To ask a question, submit it here before Noon PT on Thursday 12/13. If you can’t make that, we’ll also hold a Reddit “Ask me Anything” on Monday 12/17 starting at 1pm PT to answer your questions.

We are excited to announce an improved YouTube, one you helped us build! The new site design will help you build a bigger, more connected audience by improving new channel discovery, simplifying subscriptions, and keeping your fans plugged in and aware of your new videos no matter where they are. Click here to learn more.

So, what does this improved YouTube mean for you as a creator?

Here are the key changes:

  • The subscription Guide is now everywhere, and it showcases your channel activity to your fans
  • All the video information and engagement are consolidated below the video player, helping your video take center stage on the viewing page

  • We are making it easier to subscribe with enhanced channel recommendations.

Check out this one-pager for more information.

Your feedback matters

We know change isn’t easy, so we don’t take it lightly. Our experiments show that the new design drives subscriptions and keeps fans better connected to their favorite content.  We’ll be hosting a Google+ Hangout on Air as well as a Reddit IAmA to answer any questions you may have.  Stay tuned for more information.

Let’s keep building the future of video together.

  1. PLEASE! Center align your website!

  2. Whether or not it's related, right now the "key change" to me as a creator is the broken scheduled publishing. Vids stay private unless manually made public.

  3. When I view my subscriptions I would like to see an icon, perhaps a green or red dot which indicates whether a channel is currently subscribed to my channel.

That way I can decide whether I wish to remain as a subscriber to certain channels.

  4. You took away being able to subscribe via e-mail using the subscribe button on a channel.

Is there any other way to subscribe via e-mail other than the subscription manager page now?

This is a hassle, when one has 900+ subscriptions and now to toggle the e-mail option for new subscriptions I have to hint down the channel after adding it.

  5. It's been proven that YouTube's constant misguided homepage changes have decreased views inordinately! Some people I follow (and big channels too) lost 60% of their viewership in a month last time this happened even though they were slowly rising upwards until that point.

The fact is nobody cares what even their most favorite 'Tubers are liking and subscribing to when they're on the homepage. They want their subscriptions and a lot are too lazy to head over to the Subscriptions tab. They've even removed the "uploads only" option which everyone I know was using. I just wish the site would give people a decent homepage, because they've been improving on nearly all other matters...

    1. Agreed.
-Most people who still try to use the poor feedback forum of the Google+Tube, don't even use the homepage, but instead have a link to their own page.

I do that too, just to go past the mess-of-a-homepage.

      Delete
    2. I agree so much. All the homepage needs to have is a list of new uploads from your subscriptions. All the other jazz can be on a separate page where people who are bothered can go and look if they want to, in the same way that they've stuffed the subscriptions away now. YouTube isn't supposed to be a social network in the sense we want to know what other people are liking or commenting on. It's supposed to be a video site where we come to watch the videos from the people we subscribed to.

If that happens then maybe not only subscribers will increase for the select few YouTube seems to cater for now, but for smaller creators across the board. YouTube was never made for money. YouTube was never made so a few big creators could gain and the rest could lose out.

And finally, please, please listen to what we say. Don't promise you'll consider feedback and then churn out something like this. Just look at the comments on this page, on the site, on your Twitter, on every other associated site and you will see that this is not what people want. This was a bad move, YouTube.

    3. agreed! how can it be so difficult to understand?? maybe it's done deliberately, but then it's disrespectful towards middle and smaller creators. If youtube goes on like that, they might see small profit now, but in a longer run, people will move on to different platform. And then yt giants won't manage on their own. It seems that someone is forgetting that youtube is about the community.

  6. Why'd you get rid of the front page memory for people? And the extra white space and all, while cleaner looking, is starting to get to the unfriendly, sterile level of clean for me. And if your going to make any more changes can you PLEASE ALLOW US TO SET WHAT THE SIDEBARS ARE?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with M3gabyt3, I really liked being able to subscribe to email updates on the video page. Why change something like that?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I've not yet got this new design on my main channel, but on my second channel i have the new homepage and I dont like how we have to click around Just to see our Subscriptions. You need to realise that people come to YouTube to watch videos, not to social network. We have Facebook and Twitter for that. I'd hope to see the watch page channel banner return too, as I used that as a means of promotion.

  9. I find it fascinating that the link to "learn more" hasn't actually been updated to the new layout. It is still showing the old (read: current) layout as being "new"

Time to slow your roll YT, a new layout every 6 months seems to be too fast even for your own media team to keep up with!

  10. You guys sure do like adding extra clicks to your site! To see videos I subscribed to, all I had to do before was go to youtube.com and click on new videos OR x them if I'm not interested. NOW, I have to click "My subscriptions" then "Uploads only" and if i don't care for a video, I have to click two more times to "hide activity".

haha, I understand this is the final template, but sure do hope you guys take suggestions and AT LEAST make the "My subscriptions" page default when i go to youtube.com because no offense, but I am more interested in seeing videos from people I subscribed to than videos you suggest for me. Hey, maybe if I get bored I'll click on "What to watch" and see your suggestions :)

    thanks <3

  11. Not a fan of the whole "What To Watch" section. I've been using this interface for about a month now (don't know how, but I have) and I seem to miss out on some of my subscriptions new videos.

How about two columns. One for subscribers? And one for recommended videos? You do have a lot of white space to work with here after all.

Also, I'll integrate my Google Plus username to my account as soon you allow me to take the name of my page rather than my actual name.

  12. I hate it. I'm sorry but I just want things to go back to the way it should be.

Do you get money from it because i don't. I've tried creating a google ads they told me i should just monoterize my videos. so what should i do because i can't link it and do not get money.

  15. "improved"? REALLY?? there isn't a GOD DAMN thing improved about this! this is a total crock of shit update i can't find anything , NOTHING is in a sensible place at all and i can't view ANY of my subscriptions or my comments and i have NO way to put it back the way it was WTF you tube? THIS IS COMPLETELY REDICULOUS!! the last updates were crap, this is COMPLETELY USELESS! Are you trying to piss people off and drive them away for good? because that's ALL these constant changes are doing , half of my subscriber base has gone on to other things over your stupid "changes" this is an idiotic design and i am NOT AT ALL HAPPY WITH IT!!!

    1. I know it says "Your feedback matters" but everyone knows that is so~ far from the truth. If everyone, literally everyone, on youtube said they hated the new design do you know what would happen? Nothing! Because they do not give a flying F. As long as they think it has a .00000000000000001% chance of getting them more money, they'll do it.

      Delete
    2. you are correct! have you seen the new number of ads they are putting on now? and how much of that revenue do you think the content creators are actually going to see? Not holding my breath for my adsense revenues going up anytime soon. Someone pointed this out to me earlier, bring up facebook and you tube side by side. notice anything remarkably similar? i personally didn't sign up for youbook or facetube someone needs to get their head out of their ass on this one and put things back where people can actually use and enjoy them

    3. i agree. cannot seem to watch a video, then on the same page decide to watch the next one from same channel. before you could drop down a 'menu of videos' and usually find the next one, at which time there would be a way to keep that going at the bottom of the screen

  16. Why is the search filters don't have sort be Views anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is horrible! We should be able to default it back to the way it was so that we can choose to see just uploads from our subscriptions. And why doesn't it show when we have new comments?!?

  18. Please CENTER the layout. Don't want to look to one side of my iMac. It'll get even worse when I upgrade to a 21.5".

    ReplyDelete
  19. I feel like my youtube experiance has been severely reduced because of the chages, for one when I do a youtube search to look for the most recent, I now cannot exactly look as the filters only go for most popular, today, week and month rather then allowing me to see what has been posted currently, it's not even in order of upload time when being clicked on today. Another problem mentioned before is not being to instantly seeing what my current subbed channels are uploading, instead I now have to click all the way through to get to where I want to be.

Please can you at least do beta runs before just up and changing the scheme without warning or letting the user be able to revert back.

-I was enforced to be in that group. And let me tell ye that we did bring out the mistakes and flaws but to no avail.

Once we figured out that not only are they not taking heed to our words, but are making new mistakes without correcting the old ones.. it was clear.
-They were going to slap that clusterfuck to all users.

I was in the beta, against my will.
      -It was futile.

  22. You have left aligned the enter layout. Now, the video and everything else sits on the left side of my gigantic 40in screen.

Did you not have the foresight to realize how stupid of an idea that is? You've basically made using a fullsize window a non-option unless you like to either
    a) look at the left side of the screen the entire time you watch a video,
    b) physically shift your body in alignment.

Both being unacceptable. CENTER-ALIGN THE DAMN CONTENT.

    1. I presume the entirety of the old format is not going to be an option anymore. One of the nice things about the old format was the drop-down menu of other things a video producer has that one can look at while running one currently. Now, to look at their list, everything stops and yer in a new page. This is stupid. Please erase this new format and return to what you had going. Or at least allow us to choose between the two. This 'new and improved' format is just plain ugly. Can't look at it it's so ugly.

  26. This is absolute terrible, at least with the last version people could get use to it! this thing has no colour, the only thing thats "simple" is your brains when your made this because alls i see is red and white. With alot of boring things that my sub's have written and liked.. I DONT WANT THAT, i want to see whats NEW on my home page, not old videos that relate to previous videos iv watch, it makes me want to never be able to go onto youtube again and find something better because what you've done is just pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow, this redesign is impressively shitty. My favorite part is that I now have to dig around in the inbox to see if I have new comments rather than just getting new comment notifications on the homepage. Also, I like how I have to make two mouse clicks on the homepage just to see new uploads from my subscriptions. And it was a nice touch to justify the entire design to the left. Real creative. I look forward to the next redesign in 6 months when you will surely give the word "shit-tacular" a new meaning.

  28. Don't fix what isn't broken. How about thinking through and getting some people to test the "improvements" before forcing everybody to use it?

Also, what was the point in small changes like making the dislike bar grey? Why do you guys insist on making changes just for the hell of it?

  34. I do not like the new layout as well.

Please consider reverting back to how it was (At the moment 98% of the responses to your most recent layout changes are not positive)

Or give the option to change and edit themes. Being able to change the background colors, and other options would be greatly appreciated I am sure as well. (at night time it is painful to look at with its current settings, The old layout was much easier on the eyes)

It definitely needs to be centered.. I could see if I was running this on a mobile device as probably not looking too bad, but on my desktop and laptops which have wide screens it looks very bad with everything aligned to the left side.

And there are issues with notifications on new comments / messages and stuff. This is going to turn people away from using your website, I have avoided it as well since the switch as it gives me a headache with how bright and clustered everything is. Please definitely consider reverting back or fixing these things..

I like using YouTube, and have been a member since 2004, but with these changes definitely considering using a different provider more and more each time you guys change things drastically around.

  35. For all things good in this world, change the home page feed to subscriptions. That's all I ask. I don't care about the bizarre white space. I don't care about how the "More From" button shows the oddest section of videos. I just want the ability to see my subscriptions on the home page. Not activity, not "recommended" videos, not 2 week old subscription videos. Just videos I CHOSE to be notified about.

Who designed this shit? this has to be the working of some undercover agent from another site, there's no way you could make it THIS AWFUL without doing it on purpose. I had to check the calendar to see if this is one of your April fools jokes. It's so bad, I honestly thought you were joking.

There's a box, it goes FUCKING ABOVE the current video that's playing. And you know what it does, it shows you IN ORDER the other videos made by the same channel. You don't remove features. That's not simplicity, that's mental retardation. Stop making everything so bad. Don't just fire the team that fucked this up, have them deported. Call them names, belittle and throw rocks at them. 40. I HATE this version. Please believe me, I understand that new changes require an open mind that will allow the person to adjust. I loved the last version and I adjusted to it right when it was released.
READ MORE ABOUT THE THINGS I HATE ON THE NEW ONE:

TOO PLAIN: It looks like a glitch or an unfinished website. And... too much white? Think of a theater, it's dark around and comfortable for the eyes. Bring in some gray to the sides.

NOT CENTERED: It is SO uncomfortable for the whole website to be shifted on the far left side of my browser on a big screen. The video should be the center of my attention along with all the info.

CLUTTER UNDER VIDEO: Info such as channel, subscribe, and title should've stayed at the top. The video is now a bit too high on my screen. Again, makes it less centered.

    NASTY HOMEPAGE...

    LIKES:
    - I like the user pictures on comments and channel owners.
    - Fixed Subscription issue.
    - I like the new playlist videos on the side

EVEN Google + looks better. Hulu looks great so mash something like it to create something beautiful. You guys rushed and didn't wait for opinions from users.

  47. I'm all for changing a website to improve usability and appeal, but this seems to be a bad redesign
    - Why is everything left aligned? I have to stare at squished together controls on the left side of my screen while the right 50% of my screen is empty space.
    - I'm not interested in what people like and what comment they left on someone's video. I want to see their uploads, popular video, actual 'content', not the byproduct of the content
    - The watch page mini banner is gone and it was a great way to customise and stand out

I assume it's to make the format fit Google TV and other home entertainment systems, but it looks unappealing and is not a UX improvement. While I won't cry for the old design back, this really needs to be rethought

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Improved" isn't exactly the word I would use.

The only things I have noticed is that Scheduled Publishing was broken and the homepage became less user friendly for all of the reasons I'm sure are in comments above.

  50. Videos aren't centered
Actual content people want to watch (subscriptions) is not given the main focus to purely benefit partners
All the white looks terrible and massively detracts from the viewing experience if it's a dark video (coupled with the horrendous left alignment this makes youtube nigh on unwatchable for some videos)
The ridiculous guide on the left can't actually be hidden from videos leaving the entire page mismatched on both sides on a decent modern resolution.

Frankly, the only positives to the new layout are the things you haven't changed. This is a massive cock up from everyone involved.

Same goes to youtube. Even some features are gone. Now I cant see the uploader video list when I see his/her video(meaning I have to enter his channel to know how many vids uploaded). I have to browse more and there is also empty white space and the youtube not centered at all. You don't leave something unfinished. Seriously I dislike this update.

The best idea i could think of is a video page background for partners only that we can add our own imaging to just like the VEVO channels have...

  65. I must be one of the unlucky ones that has been putting up with the new improved....spit spit....youtube homepage for a couple of months now. I seem to have been part of a beta test group or something. It was really crap when my homepage was first changed some readjustment was made but it is still crap. I have got used to click click click to get to my subscibtions uploads only. But why youtube do you recommend to me vidoes I have already watched? I dont want to see what you think I want to watch or other channels you believe I should view . I couldnt care a flying fig what others people are watching or liking. But above all else I would like the powers that be to at least listen to what people are saying to you. You didnt listen to the feed back you got during testing. Lets hope you listen know and get the basics correct.

  66. Fuck you, youtube, what happened to you? I just want to see my subscriptions (filling the entire screen, not 1/3 of my screen) and THAT'S IT. I don't want click twice just to get to my subscriptions. I don't care if any of my subscriptions liked some video. I JUST WANT TO SEE MY DAMN SUBSCRIPTIONS ON THE HOME PAGE!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't mind the new look, what I mind is I can't search for recently uploaded videos on a particular search (by "date added") which has been my most useful tool to update a fansite about my favourite band.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Why so much blank space? And why white?
I suffer of photo-phobia and I can't really look at the screen!!!

  69. Perhaps this new user interface was designed for a different type of user than me, and I'm fine with that, but I'd really like if it was flexible enough to make possible the experience I used to have.

The thing is: I am really not interested at all on any activity other than my subscriptions' uploads. To check this on the new interface, I have to click on "My subscriptions" and then on "Uploads only" every time I open Youtube. It's annoying.

A simple option on the Settings to make "My subscriptions" the default page and the "Uploads only" the default filter would make me a very happy user.

Also, I don't get why it's all aligned to the left now...

    ReplyDelete
  71. The new update is fine, BUT I would REALLY like to be able to choose UPLOADS ONLY again. I don't care what my subscriptions like or comment on. I think I speak for a lot of people on this one.

  72. Losing the 'most recent' option is a terrible move. It is pretty vital in a lot of newsgathering work, particularly on major breaking stories.

    ReplyDelete
  73. 1. I would prefer it to be centred.
    2. I would prefer it to be not so bright.
    3. I would like to be able to set the homepage to default to Subscriptions, and to see all of their uploads.
    4. There is no need for a pulldown menu that only contains 2 items (Video Manager & Analytics). Just put those links on the homepage.
    5. Why have a separate pulldown menu way over on the right, also containing Video Manager? It feels really half-baked.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Wow this is horrible. I can't even get over how horrible this is. Please please please, let me put Subscriptions > Uploads Only as the default. The mass amount of white is also incredibly disorienting. I didn't really like the last layout either, but at least I could set these parameters as my default and at least there was some semblance of "color" with the different shades of black and grey. It constrained the eye a lot better than this vast sea of whiteness. And also, for god's sake center the website! Centered is industry standard, what was the designer of this layout thinking!?

    ReplyDelete
  75. "...one you helped us build!"

Clearly, you consulted the wrong people...

    ReplyDelete
  76. ^^^ agree with everyone else... Instead of leaving white BLANK pages why not allow fully partnered and verified users to put there own color picture etc on each video page... and what happened to the recommended to you section... That was a great way to discover new channels...

    ReplyDelete
  77. The update isn't bad, but please put the recommended videos back up on the main page. I've watched a lot of good videos from that feature and don't want to see it gone.

    ReplyDelete
  78. We can't call the homepage homepage anymore. Practically all the things that are important to the owner are cancelled or well hidden. My avatar isn't there. As a Youtube member I am interested in the video of my subscribers, on my messages, comments, likes and dislikes. I welcome also recommended videos, which are connected with the videos I watched before and of the type of videos I like. OK, channels may be recommended also, but one cannot subscribe to all those, just because they might have in the past a video or two which I watched or like. Much better to recommend videos.
The search for videos became impossible. No option for searching by the view count or by the date of the upload. I can't imagine how you propose to find the videos we want.
The sterile whiteness hurt my eyes and the left aligned videos bother me very much. What's the use of all that blank space on the right? You could at least fill it with something.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Once upon a time there was this website called Myspace.com. I was very thankful that they let me connect and share information with others, free of charge, for many years. However major changes were made and for better or worse, myself and hundreds of thousands of others were rubbed the wrong way and found ourselves another social homebase. Sure Myspace.com still had some big Musicians and Entertainers using the site, but to what audience? You are making the same mistakes, taking for granted that another site will come along and YouTube will just be that old site everyone once used but now is a butt of jokes. Ive been on YT for what seems like forever, but the latest year of changes (March/Dec) was the finial nail in the coffin for me. Ill likely let my current channels fade into obscurity and seek a new home for any future endeavors.

PS: You dont ALWAYS know better.

  80. There's nothing that I've seen so far of this change that I like so far.One of the biggest changed that I'm having a problem with is that I don't want to see the recommended videos when I log in I'd prefer to just see the videos I'm subscribed to.Sometimes there are some disgusting videos on the side bar under related or recommend videos that I don't care to see.

Another problem I have is with the video player not being centered it especially looks bad considering I have it where it's always zoomed in.

    1. Exactly my thoughts. I can deal with a design change once I get more familiar with it. To me, removing useful search features like the ability to sort video searches by upload date is a much bigger issue. Hey, trust our recommendations on what to watch! You don't need to search for anything anymore! Move along.

      Delete
  85. The recent changes kinda suck! I log onto YouTube to check what videos where recently uploaded and it used to be on the front page. Now its under 'My Subscriptions' and then 'Uploads only'. I'm complaining about two more clicks but come on! I don't need to know all the recent comments or favorites my subscriptions do.

Also center the video player! YouTube is now the only website that I follow that does not center the videos! YouTube, a site dedicated to videos is the only one who doesn't center them!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Also, why is it that when I click 'remove' from the 'recommended channels' side bar(or middle bar since that's where it is) they cycle? I cant get rid of them because 5 clicks in I see the same ones! What are you saying, I have to watch these channels?

      Delete
  86. I don't mind so much the look but when I got to watch youtube videos I start with one video on a channel then traverse through other videos inside the 4 pages of videos right above the player. Now if I want to go play another video from the channel I have to go to their physical channel page, and if I'm watching a old video I have to scroll through possibly hundreds of videos to find where I was in the list of videos.

    Not everyone has playlists setup.

  88. "What to Watch" is useless. It just filters half the clips I've already watched from channels I'm subscribed to!

Commenting on clips is now much more troublesome to scroll thru. Where did the sorting options go?!?

The new redesign leaves far too much blank white space on the page. Are your coders using 800x600 monitors or something!?!
I can live w/out the videos being centered on the page, but so much blank white wasted space in my browser is ridiculous

And thanx for alienating new viewers to any channel. The old click-down window above a playing video that showed the last 20 or so clips the same user/channel uploaded? WHERE DID THAT GO!?!?!
Now one has to waste clicks loading different pages to see what else these users have uploaded. Which gets extra tedious if you were in the middle of watching - for example - VlogBrothers clip from 2 year ago & want to watch the next video in that set. Gotta scroll for an hour thru their channel to find the damn clip! In the old layout just clicked the nice box above the clip & bam! there were the clips uploaded at that same time as whatever you're currently watching

Honestly now I can't take anyone seriously because I see their shitty little MS paint logos next to their comments...

The last layout was completely functional and it worked perfectly, it was next to flawless.

Personally as an autistic individual being forced to learn a new (and very poorly done) layout after becoming accustomed to the previous one is a very stressful and cruel thing.

Did you people actually throw funds out the window so you could destroy a perfectly good thing and replace it with this piece of garbage?

  94. what I liked the most about youtube was the ability to see other videos the creator created without having to go to a different page or shit like that now I just have to wish myself luck when say trying to find the next video in a series of tutorials... why you would remove this feature is beyond me... ps who's bright idea was it to make the comments load without pages that shit may work on a social network but it is just downright stupid to put it on a video stream site who do you have designing the site? some half brained monkeys?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I like the clean design, but I REALLY WANT a Disqus-like way to filter out specific words from the comment area. That's still not here.

    ReplyDelete
  96. The kind of "hospital white" design doesn't bother me that much. I just think putting the video's title behind it isn't really logical.

But most of all, why are we force to see that "What to Watch" thing? Can you allowed us to change the settings of the front page?

Quoting yourself: "...keeps fans better connected to their favorite content. " Oohh really? So how can we easily get to our subscriptions page? I had to set all my subscriptions so that it only shows their updates. It's become annoying, really. There's no way this new design help us to do that. And personally, I think I have enough intelligence to know what I have/want to watch.

Why throwing away a lot of useful options like that?

Change for changing isn't always a good choice...

  98. I've seen a channel with 250,000 subscribers upload videos in the last 24 hours only and when they normally get 2000-4000 likes so far only 250 likes in 18 hours, why are people having to press like 2 or 3 imes before it registers? your layout s broken, fix it

    ReplyDelete
  99. I have to say that unless changes are made to the new layout's search options I and many others I know will no longer be using YouTube. The site becomes completely impractical without the ability to search for videos by upload date. It is impossible to find what you want and YouTube's former uselefullness as an outlet for videos related to news events, Syria for example or anything else is completely erased.

Whatever the misplaced motivations behind the changes to the search filters I advise you to rethink them because YouTube search becomes virtually useless in this feature's absence. If people can find the videos they want they won't on YouTube they'll go elsewhere. As someone who contributes videos to youtube I don't see much point posting them if the main source of new viewers no longer exists and I know I'm not the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I almost always use the sort by upload date, and now it is GONE!! Now i have to manually add this to the address bar. I really HATE this.

    ReplyDelete
  101. This is horrid. Youtube implies I'm so stupid that I can't figure out what to watch.
I can find my own content, thank you! If I wanted your suggestions, I would be watching Television.
That's the whole point of Youtube is I can make up my own damn mind as to what content I'm looking for. And the icing on the cake is removal of the Sort By options. Clearly you're trying to get users to use your "What to Watch" features by removing their ability to find relevant content themselves.
    Asses.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I like it… Only one thing I don't like… No more honors :( That made the site fun for me :/

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'm not too worried about the design update but it needs to be centred. When people sit in front of their computers their heads are normally horizontally centred with the screen. Computer screens are getting bigger so a left aligned a website seems unnatural. Also, this is a video streaming website, even more reason to keep things in the middle.

    Thats it, my 2 cents.
    Thanks

I've just put out a new video that I 've been working on for about a month, and usually a lot of my 2,000+ Subs see it. Not this time. I was lucky that 12 of them seen it over a period of 5 hours. WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOUTUBE? Because of this I am no longer putting out those kind of videos until you FIX what you've done. And for you this means you lose money as I'm a Partner.
You sure know how to PUT PEOPLE OFF. Make the homepage show 'Subscriptions' by default and NOT 'what to watch' This is NOT facebook, or Google + - people come here to see VIDEOS. Not statuses and activity.

  110. Two big things that need to change ASAP:
    - Center the website. On a widescreen monitor the whole half right of your monitor is white, and you constantly need to turn your head to the left to watch a video. Should really be centered, I thought this was a bug at first but then it should already be fixed... Which idiot came up with this idea?
    - Subscriber homepage button as mentioned above, make it at least stick to this option if you select it, and it should be set default for any account with subscriptions.
I personally haven't found any videos on "what to watch" that seemed it worth to click on. While there are more than enough in my subscriptions - uploads only tab.

4 major reworks of the site in 4 years. As a serious content creator, I've had it with YouTube's identity crisis. Its completely frustrating to have the "furniture moved" every 10 months. Another waste of time from FailTube and now the site looks worse then ever.

  115. I don't have that much problem with the new design, but I'm the type of viewer who knows who I subscribe to and what I want to watch and that is why I like to have "My subscriptions" and "Upload only" on my main page every time I go on youtube. Currently it always mains to the homepage with all the annoying recommendations/comments/who do my subscribed channels faved, etc. which I'm totally not interested in. My question is this: Is there an option to save "my subscriptions"-"upload only" as the opening page (it was like that in the previous design) or do I really have to bookmark this link: "www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions/u" instead of simply writing in youtube.com and see all the stuff I like.
If there is an option for that I'm either blind, lazy or it's just that well hidden.

  119. Gotta love these engineers here at Google who have completely destroyed the whole purpose of Youtube with constant redesign changes that make it impossible for users to actually find videos on a VIDEO SHARING WEBSITE .

I find it amazing that in 2012 nearly every top youtube partner channel has seen over a 50% drop in view counts and ad revenue , yet the Youtube staff claims that all of these changes have been OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE - That's funny , how's that 500 million dollar investment in PREMIUM CONTENT working out ? 90% of these PREMIUM CHANNELS have FAILED miserably .

Instead of spending a half a billion dollars creating channels for Hollywood celebrities and wannabe television producers , maybe Google could buy a couple telephones and hire some people to answer them ? WE DESERVE REAL SUPPORT & COMMUNICATION ... This company needs to stop living in denial and quit pretending that it actually cares and listens to it's REAL content creators

    ReplyDelete
  120. What to watch is a complete waste of time. Nobody cares what opinions others have. If they did, they would communicate with them via Private Messages or comments. The redesign is also a failure in that it has eliminated the most recent option in the sort options. Sorry, but if I look up a specific term and choose "this week," I still prefer being able to view them from the most recent to the oldest. This option is no longer there. If it weren't for Cardfight!! Vanguard's dub and byutvsports using Youtube, I would probably be leaving the site. Each redesign hasn't made it easier. It has made it harder to use.

  128. Improved? I use a 1366 x 768 browser (Chrome) and the website is lopsided and has too much white space.
There have been numerous complaints about the alignment of the layout which is too lopsided and doesn't properly fit people's browsers. The previous layout was middle aligned for everybody regardless of screen resolution. It's as if YT either hired an amateur to code their CSS for them, or they think lopsided layouts are easy to see, which it isn't.

And the background is way too white and bright, and is less easier on the eyes compared to the previous layout. I understand Google wants to use a lot of white, but at least consider readablity, balance, and contrast. The previous layout had whitish-greyish tones that were easy to read; this one is less easy to read.

Even if you consider that many people are first reactionary to change, it doesn't excuse the poor CSS that makes the site lopsided with too much white space on the other side of the layout, and it's disgusting that YT and Google think that these changes are what we want, which is clearly not the case.

  131. New layout DRIVES subs? I used to get 2,000 views a day-I'm curious why my latest upload has peaked at 874. >:-(

    1. I've looked at the view count for a number of small to medium sized channels. They all lost a large portion of their view counts after the update. My channel took a similar hit. I instantly lost 50% of my average views.

  133. Give us back the whole previous youtube...
It's so messed up now,I want to see my subscription channels when I go on Youtube, not many stupid things youtube recommends me that I don't even care about!
Also, why are the title of the videos under the video? This is so messy really,I can understand you want to improve things, but this version is really too messed up,now it's so troublesome to look for what's new into my subscriptions...

  134. Get rid of this fucking stupid new layout. I, as well as many other people, prefer the previous layout. YouTube seems to only be able to see the positive feedback about their new layouts, without listening to the feedback from people who dislike it. This has happened 3 times, and you guys seem to be too fucking retarded to answer back or deal with what we want. Consistently saying that it's "new" and "improved" and answering to "what the users want". You're taking steps back, doing the exact opposite of what we want. Give us back the previous layout, you fucking monkeys.

  135. New channel discovery, simplifying subscriptions, and keeping your fans plugged in and aware of your new videos no matter where they are.

  136. I'd like to know on what idiotic algorithm the recommended channels are chosen. I am listening to opera, also my channel is about opera, yet Youtube recommends me channels like:ArabicBoobsTV, Your Gibs let's play, Japanese Food+Dog etc.

  137. Cleaner simpler look? I can't find any of my crap. I'm sorry but all you idiots did to youtube was to make it harder to use. My subscriptions used to be front page where I wanted them and now I have to navigate 4-6 pages just to get the new stuff. Thanks for making youtube worse and counter productive.

  138. RETURN "SEARCH BY RATING" FILTER NOW!!!!!!!! I understand that videos with large amount of loyal subscribers give a misleading assessment as to how good a video is and a lot of vlogers/gamers end up in the search results (which is annoying) but if one is trying to find a worthwhile video now, it's just IMPOSSIBLE!!!! please return that option!!!

p.s. this is bs, how the hell is it cleaner and simpler? you've absolutely killed it.

  139. I'm just gonna say it again. The new layout and features are retarded. Its not new, its just removing everything that was once useful and making the website look like shit.

  140. Please, please, please go back to a simple layout which shows the last 4 or 5 videos of each channel on the home page. I want to watch videos not sift through tons of meaningless comments and notifications.

  141. I really don't like this new format. While viewing on my 1080P monitor, everything is left-aligned. Leaving a huge white empty space on the right side of my screen. I wish that I could see my subscriptions on the main page by default. I am also getting fewer views from my subscribers. While I only have 128 subscribers, I only get around 2-4 views on a new video from active subs. While before this new layout, I would get 20-30 views on a new video from subs. I also get a lot of comments and Private messages from my subscribers saying that my videos are not showing up in their subscription boxes and had no idea that I had been uploading new videos... Uploading videos on to YouTube used to be fun because of the interaction I would get from my subscribers. But now that I hardly get any views/interaction due to my videos not showing up in my subscribers boxes, I almost want to stop making videos...
