WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Representative Kathy Hochul (NY-26) announced today that the North Tonawanda Fire Department will receive a $74,069 grant from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“This grant will allow the North Tonawanda Fire Department to increase the number of trained, front line firefighters available in their communities. As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I am committed to keeping our communities safe, and this grant is critical in ensuring the needs of the community are met. Having the ability to maximize emergency response time is vital to maintaining a well prepared public safety force, and I am pleased that North Tonawanda will have these funds available for recruitment initiatives,” Rep. Hochul said.

FEMA awarded approximately $380 million in SAFER grants to support the efforts of fire departments to hire new firefighters and recruit and retain volunteer firefighters.

In January, Rep. Hochul sent a letter to the fire stations throughout the 26th District encouraging them to apply for the funding.
