Greater Access to Fresh Food Grown Locally By Western New York Farmers

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Representative Kathy Hochul (NY-26) announced today that the University at Buffalo will receive nearly $1 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help expand access to locally grown food in Western New York.

“This grant for the University at Buffalo will go a long way to connect consumers to local farmers, expand the availability of fresh food, and enhance the economic vitality of agriculture in Western New York,” said Rep. Hochul. “It is critical that we continue to work to preserve food security and expand access to healthy, locally grown produce.”

The USDA Agriculture and Food Research Initiative seeks to enhance food security by reconnecting farmers and consumers through innovative local government policy and planning.

The University at Buffalo will receive a total of $967,793 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.
