REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR TARRYTOWN FIREFIGHTERS

Washington, DC--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the awarding of a $232,849 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant to the Tarrytown Fire Department for modification of its facilities, protective equipment, training and wellness and fitness programs. The matching contribution from Tarrytown is $12,255.

The grant, issued through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which has provided more than $4 billion in grants since 2001.

Rep. Engel said, “We depend on our firefighters to protect us in the event of an emergency so any help we can give them helps us also. This money, for equipment and personal protective equipment, training and fitness programs, will go a long way to help the Tarrytown firefighters in doing that.”

The money will be used for modifying facilities, including two fixed station generators and four capture exhaust systems, training and wellness and fitness programs, four wet and dry suits and four helmets, and compressors, harness gear and radios.

“By updating equipment and training, we help to make Tarrytown a safer and better place to live,” said Rep. Engel. “This is a major function of government and one I am proud to have a hand in.”
