REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR MT. ST. VINCENT

Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the awarding of a $77,087 U.S. Department of Education grant to the College of Mount St. Vincent for its scholarships for disadvantaged students program.

Rep. Engel said, “Mount St. Vincent has a distinguished reputation and I take great pleasure in announcing this grant. Over the past two years Mount St. Vincent has helped 56 disadvantaged students with grants from the Education Department to attend college.

“This is an investment that will pay itself back many times when these young men and women go out into the world with their acquired knowledge and abilities to help create a better America.”

College President Charles Flynn said, “The College of Mount Saint Vincent appreciates deeply this grant through the Department of Health and Human Services. Congressman Engle has consistently supported financial aid that helps us to provide educational opportunity for talented students of modest financial means. This economy makes that challenge more urgent. This help could not come at a more critical time."

Carol Vicino, Director of the Nursing Department at Mount St. Vincent, said, “In this time of an acute nursing shortage it is indeed fortunate that the College of Mount Saint Vincent has been awarded $77,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services.

“As a Hispanic-serving and minority-serving institution in the Bronx, New York, the College has educated nursing students to serve the needs of the surrounding community. Because of the above award, the College will be able to continue to provide educational experiences into the future.”
