REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES $116,000 IN FUNDS FOR MONTEFIORE

Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the awarding of an $116,667 grant for the Montefiore Medical Center from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant is for the Health Center Cluster, and is a supplement for expansion of the facility’s health services.

“As changes to our broken health care system are considered in Washington, I am pleased to help those entities who continue to bring quality care to the Bronx, such as the Montefiore Medical Center. Once reforms are made, not only will this quality continue, it will be enhanced,” said Rep. Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health.

"We greatly appreciate the generous support of Congressman Engel and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services," said Steven M. Safyer, MD, President and CEO of Montefiore Medical Center. "This grant will help support the quality healthcare we provide and strengthen our ability to promote the health and well-being of the people of the Bronx."

“This is money which will help the outstanding personnel at Montefiore to continue providing essential health care to Bronx residents, but also enable them to better combat the long-term causes of disease,” said Rep. Engel. “I am proud to play a part in helping Montefiore have the necessary federal resources to continue well into the future.”
