Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel announced today that the New City Post office at 245 North Main St. will be renamed Monday in honor of the late state Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski.

Rep. Engel said, “Ken Zebrowski was someone whose friendship I valued. More significantly, he was a great representative and a true leader for Rockland County and for New York. . He was a determined advocate for education, health care, and the environment. He has been sorely missed by the people he served, his many friends and most especially by his family.”

"This is a great honor and will serve as a symbol of my husband's legacy of service and love for his community,” said his wife, Linda. “Ken was so appreciative of the opportunity to represent Clarkstown and Haverstraw and worked every single day to improve life for Rockland County families. This would have meant the world to him. On behalf of my family, I am deeply grateful."

"Naming the New City Post Office in memory of my Dad,” said his daughter Kristen Zebrowski Stavisky, “is a most fitting tribute. My father dedicated his life to family, service, and community. The Post Office was one of his favorite spots and became an outpost constituent office. My Dad stopped in at least once a day and relished the opportunity to talk to people: the staff, constituents, and friends. He would be overwhelmed and humbled by this honor."

"My Dad was a dedicated Legislator and Assemblyman but first and foremost he was a community guy,” his son, Ken, the current Assemblyman, said. “He loved bouncing around town and chatting with friends, neighbors and constituents at local shops and restaurants. To have a neighborhood fixture like the Post Office renamed in his honor is an amazing tribute."

Rep. Engel introduced the legislation renaming the Post Office in the House of Representatives, where it passed unanimously, and was then signed into law. The legislation renames the New City Post Office building as the Kenneth Peter Zebrowski Post Office Building, in recognition of his many legislative accomplishments and his dedication to the community.           

He was first elected to the Rockland County Legislature at the age of 27, beginning three decades of public service. He was Chair of the Rockland County Legislature for four terms and elected to the State Assembly in 2005 representing the 94th District. At his death, Mr. Zebrowski had 102 bills pending before that body on a variety of issues, including stronger public schools, greater environmental protections, and improved access to health care.

Sheldon Silver, the Speaker of the Assembly, called him “a man of leadership and integrity, wisdom and wit, and generosity of spirit.”
