ENGEL, RED CROSS, PITNEY BOWES UNITE FOR HOLIDAY MAIL FOR HEROES PROGRAM

Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel is joining with the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes to send holiday cards to members of our military, veterans and their families, many serving overseas, in the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program.

Rep. Engel said, “The holiday season is a time when a greeting can mean so much more to service members, veterans and their families. This program makes it simple for someone to send a card. From now until December 2nd, bring a greeting card to any of my three district offices. They will be forwarded to the American Red Cross and mailed by Pitney Bowes in time to arrive for the holidays.

“This time of the year is especially poignant for our men and women in the service, veterans and their families. Please show you remember by bringing a holiday card to my office and I’ll make sure the Red Cross gets them in time for the holidays.”

The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes ask that all cards have a generic greeting, such as ‘Dear Service Member.’ Cards addressed to specific individuals cannot be accepted. Also, do not include your home address and do not include inserts of any kind, such as photos or letters. These will be removed in the mailing process.

Finally, participants should limit the number of cards they submit to 25 from any one person and 50 from any group. The cards do not need their own envelopes as they will be removed before mailing.

Rep. Engel said, “This is a small but memorable way to tell these brave men and women that you appreciate their sacrifice. Bring a card, or cards, before December 2, to any of my offices. You’ll feel better for doing it.”
